W 1951 roku z Wytwórni Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego we Wrocławiu zostały wydzielone zakłady zajmujące się wyrobem produktów metalowych. W 1966 roku nadano jej nazwę Zakłady Metalowe Polar, w 1972 zakład otrzymał kolejną nazwę - Zakłady Zmechanizowanego Sprzętu Domowego Predom-Polar.W 1995 roku nastąpiła prywatyzacja i zamiana nazwy w Predom SA. W 2002 roku firma zostaje wycofana z GPW i przejęta przez Whirpool Corporation.
